Ask all the questions!
Starting off strong with this one. Asking questions is so important to make sure you fully understand what’s going on (even though you still might not and that’s OK!). Additionally, I think it shows that you care, and it might help someone else realize something that they wouldn’t have thought of unless you asked. Curiosity is so good and there are no bad questions!
Change up your sources!
There are so many resources available to you as an intern! There are plenty of things to read, watch, assess, observe, etc., use it all and watch how much you absorb and grow! This is also a great reminder to stay in touch with peers too, and that all of us interns are in this together and are stronger as a unit, plus more informed! Embrace that you are learning!
I think this one is the most important. This is a learning experience, and if we already knew everything, there would be no need for an internship. You are going to make mistakes, not know an answer, have a difficult interaction, and more, so why not just look at it all from a lens of gratitude? These are all opportunities to cement knowledge that you’ll be pulling from as an MT-BC. It is such a gift to be entering a field that pours so much into its up-and-comers, and it’s certainly something worth celebrating!

I’ve been asking a lot of questions these days, so does anyone have any questions for me about what the internship experience is like? I’d be happy to answer them via email: annefrances@piedmontmusictherapy.com
