“Blooming” Into Professionalism: The Last Steps to Becoming a MT-BC

Article by: Anne Frances Frazier, MTI

Spring has sprung in Charlotte, NC! With that, I have only a few weeks left of internship, WOW! For this month’s blog post, I wanted to share a brief overview of the next steps that lie between MTI and MT-BC for me!

Step 1: Complete Internship

The last few weeks of internship consist of transitioning back to co-leading with the SMTs (supervising music therapists), intern projects such as presenting a case study and a capstone project, announcing completion of internship to group sites, a final evaluation, and all things closure. It is hard to believe that it’s already here.

Step 2: Graduate College

On Friday, May 8th, I will return to Nashville, TN! Finally, I’ll walk across that stage to receive a Bachelors in Music from Belmont University! The completion of internship is embedded in the degree, so it will be officially official! I am looking forward to reuniting with my cohort and sharing a “we did it” group hug!

Step 3: Study For and Take the CBMT Exam

To be an eligible candidate to sit for the CBMT (The Certification Board for Music Therapists) exam, the internship site must confirm that you’ve completed all necessary tasks and are ready to take the next step to become board certified. I have woven exam prep into my weekly schedule already, so ideally there won’t be too much time between finishing up internship and sitting for the exam. I feel ready!

The MTI has become the MT-BC!

A fun question for the readers: If you could be any type of flower, what would you be?

I would be a violet because it’s my dog’s name and I love purple!
