![]() We are nearly finished with the annual event of #MTAdvocacy on social media. In reading through the initial post from December 29, 2013 (check it out here) I have been discerning my fit in one of the three categories. These three pictures will illustrate my placement as a CONNECTOR. 1. After responding to phone calls and emails from folks inquiring about music therapy services or considering the pursuit of a music therapy degree, this photo is included as the first example. Enjoy the challenge of searching for the Certification Board for Music Therapists Lapel Pins, north of the Duquesne Pendant and attached to an uplifting card from a former student. I feel an obligation to encourage folks to ensure music therapists are board certified... whether for observational purposes or clinical needs.
![]() 3. Wrapping up with this third picture conveys another reason for my fit as a participant in the CONNECTORS Category. Last week, I joined a group of over 40 social workers and other health care professionals, a combination of direct practitioners, retirees, interns and students. There was a monthly presentation organized by Winthrop University's Social Work Department and in partnership with Catawba Area Agency on Aging and Interim Healthcare. This photo captures a view of campus, before the snow flurries arrived in Rock Hill. Connecting with other professionals and attending local workshops for continuing education has been satisfying and enriching. This ongoing opportunity is appealing because it collects donations for The Laura M. Ashley Scholarship for social work students at Winthrop and it has helped me to regularly attend presentations to learn about trending topics and area services. As #MTAdvocacy Month is ending, there is great anticipation for the South Carolina Music Therapy Hill Day on 2/2/16, organized by the Music Therapy Association of South Carolina Task Force. I am looking forward to attending the upcoming advocacy event and connecting with folks in the Piedmont Region. Plus it will be regional occurrence since the Florida Task Force will also participate in a Hill Day.
