HB 192 : call for support and advocacy

Have you heard of the North Carolina Establish Music Therapy Practice Act? It's house bill #192 that was introduced on February 27, 2017 to the General Assembly of NC. This licensure could ensure that folks designating themselves as music therapists are licensed and qualified to professionally practice in the Tar Heel State. Having this bill pass could help to increase access and affordability for consumers. Becoming a licensed profession could help with accountability and professional representation.

Wondering how you can directly help with this initiative?

Depending on your location, pick one of these steps:

• Take a trip to Raleigh and meet with legislators in NC's Capital.
• Contact representatives via email and phone
• Inquire with local sites that offer music therapy and whether a nationally certified professional is facilitating the services
• Share messaging via social media to increase awareness of HB 192

Trust me when I say that some of these options may be intimidating. I endured this process of the first optional jwith several students two years ago. It is one less experience on my professional bucket list!
