I’ve enjoyed posting photos of instruments and materials used in my private practice on Instagram. It’s been neat to follow other board certified music therapists from around the country who also share news and updates via photos. One of my latest posts (photo below) had a few questions from fellow MT-BCs. As a result the following attachment is a written explanation of the intervention. I’ve found it to be successful with clients who have developmental delays. The materials and props that are photographed are merely suggestions. Originally I included the bag of cotton balls for sensory stimulation and thought of them as soft snow balls. However, one of my clients sang about them as ice cubes. It proved to be a relevant intervention for the season and opportunity for creative play… at one point the client assisted the polar bear in flying then landing upon my guitar! I hope the attached intervention Polar Bear Plunge may be useful within your own practice and welcome your feedback. Special thanks to fellow MTBCs who asked for more details (@songsforsuccess & @lesleighz) and for Brigette Sutton, MA, MT-BC who shares her feedback through peer supervision.
