Piedmont Music Therapy, LLC was founded in 2013 to serve clients, students and programs in York and Mecklenburg Counties of the Carolinas.
In 2023, Piedmont Music Therapy (PMT) became a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status.
The mission of PMT is to engage, empower and accompany individuals to reach their goals grounded in the frameworks of music therapy and social work. PMT strives to meet students and clients where they are and support them in improving their quality of life. Additionally PMT serves to promote the growth of music therapy students and board certified music therapists by offering educational opportunities plus increasing the community's awareness of the field of music therapy.

Board of directors
Jim Funk, MBA has diverse business and technical expertise in a variety of industries and company sizes. Jim serves as Vice President and Treasurer of Hook Line and Heroes, a non-profit that provides guided fishing experiences to disabled veterans. He works with the Winthrop Region Small Business Development Center where he provided consulting to PMT during its for-profit status.

Katie Goodwin is the Director of Weekday Ministries at St. John's UMC in downtown Rock Hill, S.C. For the past fifteen years, she has served in this role overseeing the preschool and after school care programs. The preschool has benefitted from weekly visits from Piedmont Music Therapy to the class for children with developmental delays for a decade. This therapy has been one of the most impactful activities over the years and is something the staff is grateful to be able to offer to the students.
Andy Jones currently resides in Fort Mill, SC with his wife and 5 children. Andy works for U.S. Bank and has served on the boards for Habitat for Humanity of York County and Maxabilities. His children have benefited from the programming and lessons offered through Piedmont Music Therapy and he’s excited to see their reach expand within the community.

Danae Merrick, MT-BC, NICU Music Therapist, provides music therapy services to patients and caregivers at Levine Children's Hospital and has previous experience during her 13 years as a clinician with children and adults having intellectual and developmental disabilities, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing units. Aspiring to promote the availability of board certified music therapy services to the community at large, Danae serves as a credentialed representative of the nationally certified profession.

Rachel Nash MRC, BCPA, has been on both sides of our broken healthcare system, which fuels her passion as a patient advocate. Rachel concentrates on individuals' potential rather than their limitations. Rachel's education and experience navigating systems make her a qualified, board-certified patient advocate. She is interested in supporting PMT's mission by recognizing music's impact on mental health recovery.
Dr. Lara D. Rann is a Charlotte native who completed her Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology at UCLA, and earned her B.A. in Anthropology (minor in Music) from Davidson College following a year of domestic exchange study at Spelman College. Rann’s academic and professional background reflects a long-standing interest in race and ethnicity within the contexts of music and dance as healing agents. The vocalist, who has reflexively researched African-descended diasporic music and dance traditions, is the Liberal Arts Division Chair at Clinton College in Rock Hill, SC.
Jennifer Rogers is a Business and Finance Executive with over 25 years of experience with a large multinational healthcare company. Active in several local non-profit organizations. Her interest in PMT is based on the strong positive and healing impact music can provide to people. PMT providing that access to the community is a wonderful contribution of which she is proud to be a part.
