This photo was taken during the start of the Early Childhood Networking Luncheon at the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) Conference this past week. Seven years ago Rose Fienman, MSW, MT-BC and I met during the AMTA Conference in Louisville, Kentucky! We both were elected on to the executive board for AMTAS. Through the years we have reunited at music therapy conferences, connected in Boston, MA one summer while I was in town at a Hospice & Palliative Care Training at Berklee College of Music and now serve together on the editorial team of imagine. My friendship with Rose is one of the perks of my career in music therapy.
I took advantage of time away from home, both as a music therapy business owner and practicum supervisor. Viewing my Instagram Posts you'll quickly learn that I plunged into technology to experience #MTEdHunt. The weather was a bit chillier than I anticipated but I managed to exercise by running in the city on 2 mornings and staying indoors to practice yoga with two colleagues. The concurrent sessions that I have attended were intriguing and motivating. Plus, the business meetings conducted by AMTA and the South Eastern Region of AMTA (SERAMTA) were informative. These few days at conference have been rejuvenating. Networking and reuniting with prior internship supervisors and colleagues at the then Cleveland Music School Settlement & now The Music Settlement were enjoyable! I connected with other music therapists, too. One graduate student who was from Hong Kong, another professional shared some of her cherished memories from her childhood in Fort Mill, SC to other clinicians such as Megan Martin, MA, MT-BC of Healing Sounds Music Therapy who explained communication tools in practice for music therapists in Richmond, VA. It was wild finally being able to meet part of Kat Fulton's Team @MusicTherapyEd in person: Julie Palmieri, MT-BC, Kaleigh Thomas, MM, MT-BC and Ellen Whealton, MA, MT-BC from Music Therapy Ed! The next music therapy conference that I am planning to attend is hosted by the SERAMTA in Columbia, SC. The conference title is Music Therapy: Southern Style!
