Fall Is Here!

As we prepare for fall, I thought I’d take the time to share a few fall-themed intervention ideas I plan on incorporating this week with some of my groups:

• My Favorite Fall Things Songwriting Prompt
  
  • The purpose of this intervention is to encourage self-expression by allowing clients to discuss their favorite fall activities or items. A group songwriting activity also allows for group cohesion and peer support! I’ve attached the songwriting prompt above. Some examples for responses can include: bonfires, s’mores, sweaters, football, changing leaves, hot beverages, pumpkins, baking, etc. Attached here is a visual sheet that can be used. 
    
• Parachute Movement
  
  • Place leaf visuals into the center of a parachute and encourage participants to move the parachute up and down slowly, watching the leaves fall back down to the center, echoing the movement of the group. Listen to your favorite age appropriate fall-themed song - I personally enjoy “Autumn Leaves” by Nat King Cole. This activity addresses gross motor skills, as well as group cohesion in synchronous movement.
    
• “We Wish You a Happy Autumn”
  
  • This is a fun and silly piggyback version of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”. It’s great for a greeting song and orientation to the group to set the theme! Follow the link for the lyrics.
    
• Fall Playlist
  
  • Lastly, I’ve attached a fall-themed playlist. You can use these for Name-That-Tune, group singing, rhythm band activities, or simply background music for any other activities you might be implementing. Enjoy!
