2016 SERAMTA Conference

This was my third Southeastern Regional American Music Therapy Association Conference to attend.

Here are some highlights:

• Partaking in Continuing Music Therapy Education - "Meeting the Client in the Music: Exploring Therapeutic Improvisation" and witnessing the vocals & contributions from fellow music therapists
• ​Meeting Bree Beynon, Music Therapist & Managing Partner of The Palm Beach Music Therapy Institute, a grooving presence on Instagram
• Reuniting with a former classmate from Duquesne University
• Witnessing students attending their first regional conference
• Comedy cardio from dinner on April Fool's Day

Licensing was a buzzword with state task forces. The hosting state, Music Therapy Association of Georgia has licensure for music therapists which was exciting. Hopefully this trends in the region to assist in the representation, reimbursement and accessibility of music therapy services.

If I stayed another day in Macon, Georgia then I would have explored these places:

M is for Music & Monster Jam

While waiting for the next meeting at conference, a friend and I explored the nearby convention center. Can you guess by this picture, what event was headlining.... ?

Monster Jam was touring in Macon, GA. Being in the vicinity of such an action packed and dangerous setting was nerve wracking, even though there were hours more before the engines started! This tour stop was fun to relay though a texted photo to my nephew who loves Monster Trucks and a even described a week later to a patient who enjoys car racing & mechanics. Who would've guessed Monster Jam would be a topic explored in a music therapy session!?
